I had a telephone conversation with my mentor Nick Williams this morning. We spoke about acceptance of how ‘things’ are. In other words, I can still have all of my ‘issues’: changing my work and uncertainty about my relationship but I can choose just to ‘be’ with the process instead of getting stuck into all the detail.
Eckhart Tolle
Enter Eckhart Tolle. If you have never read his books, shame on you. Better yet read them! These are the books that I seek in order to practice acceptance of ’how things are.’ I first stumbled upon The Power Of Now (his first book) when I was living in Toronto 12 years ago. It was brilliant even then and no one was reading it. Now, even Oprah is on board. Apparently she read it for the first time in 2000 (ha! I beat Oprah)and always keeps a copy with her. Anyway if you want to hear Oprah sing Eckhart’s praises (fair enough) you can listen on her website. I have to thank Nick for the link. Thanks Nick!

A New Earth
If you read to feel inspired and perhaps even for ’self development’ (but I don’t really care for that term as people get their backs up about being all happy and stuff! God forbid) this is a first rate book. Oprah thinks Eckhart is a Prophet but I don’t ascribe to Gurus. I think Eckhart Tolle has much to teach and a true teacher creates leaders not followers.
I found this book peaceful and grounding. Its the kind of book to refer back to over and over again. Here is a review I nabbed from www.amazon.com
Book Review Borrowed From Amazon: The New Earth
I love the Power of Now but I think A New Earth is even more profound and lucid. I find that this book – like all Eckhart’s books, but this one has it even stronger – has an almost uncanny power. Somehow you can feel the wisdom it contains seeping into you as you read and taking you a little closer to realisation. This book gives you a profound understanding of how the ego works, and after reading it you are never quite the same person again. We are amazingly lucky that Eckhart possesses such an acute intellectual mind with an enlightened spiritual state.
If you do read this book (and push through the wordy bits, it is worth it) I would love to know what you think and how it helps you!
